Cavalia comes to Vancouver

Normand Latourelle, the Artistic Director of Cavalia and co-founder of Cirque du Soleil, awaiting the arrival of the horses in Vancouver for this highly acclaimed equestrian spectacle (that is also the world's largest traveling show):

I was lucky enough to be invited to the arrival of Cavalia in Vancouver and had the great privilege of meeting the handlers and the horses first hand. Normand stated that he had this crazy idea to put 50 horses in a show together with almost 100 performers. Cavalia is now famous for the variety of performances with riders, aerialists, acrobats, dancers and musicians but most of all for the relationship between these people and the horses. Cavalia brought 55 horses, about half are geldings and the other half are stallions. They said that the boys are more playful and enjoy their work. The importance of the care of the horses was obvious immediately. They traveled loose in box stalls and arrived in three semis. They came off the trucks looking calm and rested. It is policy that all the horses get some turn out every day and they have turn out paddocks on site. As well, they have two groups of horses, so that when a horse becomes bored he can go out to pasture and a well rested replacement will take his place. They currently have a total of 98 horses within nine different breeds.
